An Update On Rental Tenancy Law Changes In Queensland

Hello friends,
Being a tenant is stressful as you have many responsibilities. You have to keep and leave the rental property in the same condition it was in at the start of tenancy. Additionally, you must abide by the terms and conditions of the lease agreement. However, thanks to recent changes in the rental/tenancy laws in Queensland, now is the best time to be a renter. The Government has introduced multiple amendments to the residential Tenancies Act and Rooming Act 2008 and The Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Amendment Regulation 2022 that are in favour of tenants. These reforms have made it easier for renters facing domestic and family violence to end a tenancy with a week’s notice and only pay that week’s rent before vacating the property.

The reforms are welcome by pet owners as well because now landlords cannot have a blatant ‘No pets’ policy. Property owners can only turn down a request to have pets on the rented premises for specific reasons. Therefore, if you have a pet or plan to have one, your tenancy cannot be terminated. Moreover, the law changes also allow landlords and tenants to end a tenancy on the date mentioned in the lease agreement. Additionally, tenants can end periodic tenancies after serving notice but landlords don’t have the same privilege anymore.

There are many other important things you must know to have successful tenancies. So, I am sharing a wonderful article providing an update on rental/tenancy law changes in Queensland. Please have a look.
